Recycling Facts

- The average person accumulates 4.8 pounds of waste per day. About 34.5% of that is recyclable.
- It can take up to 700 years for plastic to decompose (break down) in a landfill.
- PET plastic can be recycled into: clothing, fiberfill for sleeping bags, toys, stuffed animals, rulers and more.
- Twenty years ago it took 19 pop cans to make one pound of aluminum. Today it takes 29 pop cans.
- Paper is the most commonly accepted material in recycling. In most offices 80% of waste is paper.
- Glass is the hardest material to recycle due to variations in melting temps per type.
- Americans throw away enough steel each year, to continuously supply all the nations auto makers.
- Cardboard takes 3 to 4 months to break down in a landfill. Recycling 1 ton saves nine cubic yards of space.
- Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run your TV for three hours.
Our Recycling Services
Residential Recycling Pickup
On the first Wednesday of the month, HAV-IT will pick up your recyclables; set them out where you normally set your trash by 9:00 a.m.

HAV-IT Services Operating Hours
The recycling center in Harvey, North Dakota, operated by HAV-IT Services, has the following operating hours:
Monday to Thursday: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Friday: 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM
Saturday and Sunday: Closed
It's important to note that residential recycling pickup is conducted on the first Wednesday of each month. Residents should set out their recyclables where they normally place their trash by 9:00 AM on pickup day.

Recyclable Items
Books
Hard and Soft Cover Books, and telephone books.
Paper Products
- Newspaper including advertising inserts. Rule of thumb “If it comes in the newspaper, it goes out with the newspaper.”
- Magazines, catalogs.
- Office and/or Computer Paper: includes junk mail other than magazine or newsprint; envelopes with or without windows; NO post-it notes.
Cardboard
Corrugated cardboard and paperboard boxes, no fiberboard.
Plastic Containers #1 and #2
Separate plastic #1 from #2. Look for the recycling symbol on the bottom side of the container with the number 1 or 2; double rinse container; caps can be left on; with or without labels.
Metal Cans
- Aluminum: Used beverage containers only.
- Steel or tin: Please rinse; with or without labels.

Each location is equipped to handle a variety of recyclable materials, ensuring that your efforts contribute to a greener environment. For detailed directions contact our customer service team.
We have several convenient drop-off locations to make recycling easier for you.

Bins by Post Office.
3. Harvey
Three bins are available in front of the HAV-IT Recycling Center for cardboard, plastics #1 & #2, newspaper, office paper, magazines, tin, and aluminum.
